We need to tell them that their donations, unless specifically directed otherwise will all be directed to the Class Fund and ultimately to the support of our Class ’70 Endowment of the NCEA.

Dear Class Leader,

Greetings from West Point! In response to requests from a few of you, I write now with an overview of the various ways that the WPAOG Class and Annual Giving Office will be reaching out to graduates and friends of the Academy in support of West Point this year.

Our first annual appeal was sent in early April. In this letter, signed by LTG (Ret.) Daniel W. Christman ’65, graduates and friends of the Academy were asked to make a gift in support of the Superintendent’s Annual Fund. We encourage all graduates to consider making an annual gift to the Superintendent’s Fund because those gifts are arguably most important to the Academy as they are unrestricted and used to fund urgent needs. Some graduates will receive a follow-up phone call from a representative from Advantage Consulting, our phone-a-thon company. As you may know, the WPAOG is prohibited by law from enlisting cadets to solicit private donations, so we utilize a trained and knowledgeable third party to make phone calls on behalf of the Academy.

The Long Gray Line Fund solicitation will be mailed out to all graduates this fall. The Long Gray Line Fund helps support the alumni operations of the West Point Association of Graduates on an annual basis.

Finally, the A-Club solicitation went out in May, and gave graduates and friends an opportunity to make unrestricted gifts to Army Athletics, which at certain levels of giving, qualify donors for A-Club benefits.

In addition, for those classes in reunion campaigns, graduates will be contacted by their class leaders to contribute to their Class Gift Fund in support of their Class Reunion Gift Project.

Please reach out to your classmates and encourage them to support the Superintendent’s Annual Fund, the Class Gift Fund, the Long Gray Line Fund, and/or any other Academy needs that appeal to them. Ultimately, every gift counts.

With many thanks for your continued and generous support,

Elena I. Meskill ’99
