Jim Mowery Sends: Re Pete Spivy
Jim Mowery Sends:
To the Class of 70 reference Pete Spivy,
Bob Wetherill and Jim Mowery and his wife Jenn went to see Pete in Orlando, Florida for 3 days each with an overlap of two days.
Here is their report to the class.
Pete is in a nursing home in Ocoee, Florida (Ocoee Health Care Center • 1556 Maguire Road • Ocoee, FL 34761 • (407) 877-2272) fighting a battle against brain cancer, which is complicated by a heart condition that precludes an operation to remove any of the five tumors on his brain.
His principle care giver and legal guardian is his daughter Annette Spivy. She has been shouldering the burden of his care for quite awhile now. She has done a magnificent job of ensuring Pete's care and comfort. Pete has to be so very proud of her. We sure are.
She is spelled in her efforts about once a month by her brother Bert who lives about two hours away.
While taking care of her Dad she is going to school, working, and dealing with numerous legal matters.
If you would like to see Pete, please contact Annette. Her phone number is (407) 616-7288 and her e-mail is annettespivy@yahoo.com.
Please do not try to call Pete directly. Please go through Annette.
As calling is off the table, recommend that if you want to contact Pete that you send him a card or e-mail a note to Annette and she can print it out and give it to Pete to read.
If you are able (jobs, family, and many other things may preclude visiting) we do recommend visiting.
Pete enjoyed hearing old stories and the company of two of his classmates over the three days that we were able to visit with him.
As a special note Bob and Jim would like to thank Ed Brady, Class of '60 (our BEST Physics P ever) and Bert Spivy, Class of '60 (and Pete's brother) for all they did to put us back into contact with Pete.
Pete as most of you know as always been a very private person. We think that initially he felt telling anyone outside his family about his health challenges would place an undue burden on them.
Bert drove from New Mexico to Florida to "counsel" Pete and ask him to let Annette pass the word around to those of his class that she knew or had contacted her.
This report to the Class is possible because Ed Brady's and Bert Spivy's aged wisdom were applied to the situation.
We hope that some of you are in a place in your life where you can come visit Pete.
We will keep the class apprised of the situation through the AOG which will resend any further reports.
With Guarded Optimism,
Bob Wetherill and Jim Mowery
