Roland W. Carter, 64

Devoted husband, dedicated father, loving brother, loyal friend and doting grandfather, passed away Tuesday, July 24 while vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Originally from Texas, Roland was a graduate of the United State Military Academy at West Point, and then served in the Army for 28 years. His assignments included time in Texas, Washington State, California, Washington D.C., Kansas, Korea, and Hawaii, where he commanded the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment known as "The Wolfhounds." He also received a master's degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California, and was a graduate of the United States Army War College. His many military assignments in Infantry units and the Department of the Army Staff uniquely qualified him as subject matter expert in Army matters and Operations Research. For the last 14 years he had been working for CALIBRE and rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations and Corporate Officer.

A man of character, he saw the very best in each of us, and got the very best from each of us as well. Roland is survived by his wife, Tree; three married sons, Larry, Van and Jordan; their wives Jeremy Maguire Carter, Kelly Williams Carter, and Kelly Redcay Greene, and two (perfect, in Roland's eyes) grandchildren, Addison and Grayson, his sister and brother in law Carolyn and Charlie Meadows and their daughter Michelle. And numerous other family members.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 10:30 at Immanuel Bible Church, Springfield, VA. Burial to be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Immanuel Bible Church, and United States Military Academy West Point, NY.

RIP, Robert S. Young, C2, USMA 1970

Gentlemen -

I just received a call from Linda Young, Bob's former wife.  Last night Bob passed away due to complications from heart surgery.  Not many details are forthcoming, but Linda was able to make contact with Bob's sister, Nancy, his only remaining next of kin, to let her know.

This is terrible news especially right on the heels of Doug Stockton's passing.

Update from Class Support, AOG:

Frank-Just got off the phone with his sister, Nancy-he will be cremated and buried with their parents in NJ.  Also she said she was the NOK, but he does have a spouse, she is in Brazil and can not be found, I am going to list the sister until we found out any more information.  Does that sound ok?

Senior  Discounts

Keep this list - - - and Send a copy to  your senior friends and relatives.

As I was waiting  in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his  senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When  I asked the man what the discount was, he told
me that  seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every  day.

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the  discount too.

RIP, Douglas E. Stockton, USMA 1970, C-2:

Home At Last

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2nd Timothy 4:7

At 2:00 a.m. Saturday July 7, 2012 Douglas Edward Stockton Jr., our beloved father, adoring husband, and devoted son and brother left his weary physical body and walked into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ who was waiting for him on the other side of the Door.

Surrounded by his family Doug courageously fought for the past 4 days to win the victory in this earthly realm. God had other plans for him. Doug was not in pain but waited for his brother and sister to arrive from out of state before going to heaven 1 hour after their arrival. We felt so blessed by his gift of waiting for them.

We would like to give thanks to each of you for your heartfelt prayers, hugs, food, cards and most of all your friendship and support during these most difficult months. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at St. Peter's United Methodist Church probably on Thursday, July 12, 2012*. This would have been Doug and Merrilynn's 32nd wedding anniversary. Doug always said 12 was his lucky number. Service details will be posted when they have been finalized.

In lieu of flowers donations to the St Peter's building fund in Doug's memory would be appreciated.

Love to all of you, Merrilynn, Zack, Katie and Jenny Stockton

Update:

*A memorial service celebrating the life of Doug Stockton will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Peter's UMC located at 20775 Kingsland Blvd. in Katy, Texas at 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held immediately afterwards at the church.
