I find this extremely interesting. I think I share this opinion completely but find it very strange that nobody else mentions it or views it in quite the same way.
Here's what I like a about John Mearsheimer's article: the importance of seeing the world through the eyes of other cultures. Not to compromise your national values or interests, but to understand where your opponents and allies are coming from. There is great strength and wisdom in forming policy from a position of understanding, not a closed-minded adversarial position.
