Roland W. Carter, 64
Devoted husband, dedicated father, loving brother, loyal friend
and doting grandfather, passed away Tuesday, July 24 while vacationing with his
family in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Originally from Texas, Roland was a graduate of the United State
Military Academy at West Point, and then served in the Army for 28 years. His
assignments included time in Texas, Washington State, California, Washington
D.C., Kansas, Korea, and Hawaii, where he commanded the 1st Battalion, 27th
Infantry Regiment known as "The Wolfhounds." He also received a
master's degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School in
Monterey California, and was a graduate of the United States Army War College.
His many military assignments in Infantry units and the Department of the Army
Staff uniquely qualified him as subject matter expert in Army matters and
Operations Research. For the last 14 years he had been working for CALIBRE and
rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations and Corporate
Officer.
A man of character, he saw the very best in each of us, and got
the very best from each of us as well. Roland is survived by his wife, Tree;
three married sons, Larry, Van and Jordan; their wives Jeremy Maguire Carter,
Kelly Williams Carter, and Kelly Redcay Greene, and two (perfect, in Roland's
eyes) grandchildren, Addison and Grayson, his sister and brother in law Carolyn
and Charlie Meadows and their daughter Michelle. And numerous other family
members.
A memorial service
will be held on Saturday, August 4 at 10:30 at Immanuel Bible Church,
Springfield, VA. Burial to be held at a later date at Arlington National
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project,
Immanuel Bible Church, and United States Military Academy West Point, NY.
