Greetings!
 
My name is COL (Ret) Fareed Betros, USMA ’81. I am writing to request your support in circulating information to all members of your West Point class about a 4-day patriotic event called the Nashville Connection – Heroes Salute, www.thenashvilleconnection.com.
 
My wife and I are the organizers of this event through our 501C3 non-profit organization called Families United Toward Universal Respect – FUTURE, www.womenforfuture.org.
 
This is our 2nd year hosting the Nashville Connection – Heroes Salute. It is a patriotic salute to honor our active duty military, veterans, and their family members and to keep them in the forefront of our minds, so we in our communities never forget the service they provide to our country. Our event takes place from 27-30 June 2012 in Greenville, South Carolina.
 
We are in great need of assistance in the area of sponsorships and donations. We are trying to raise $15,000 by June 1st to meet our organization's financial goals for this event. Proceeds received will be used to support several local and national veteran charities. During our event, we honor all veterans, but this year, we pay special tribute to our Vietnam War era veterans. There will be patriotic activities, entertainment, and an incredible singer and songwriter workshop and competition.
 
This year, we are showcasing the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (a 253 foot-long replica of the Vietnam Wall) that will be on public display. The WALL will be escorted into Greenville by approximately 2000 riders from the Patriot Guard and Rolling Thunder Groups.
 
Our event is also an amazing opportunity for aspiring singers, songwriters, and bands from throughout the United States to gain a leg up in the music industry. We have Grammy Award winning Nashville music talent coming to Greenville to provide professional workshops, a performance competition, powerful networking opportunities, and a Heroes Salute Gala.
 
We can provide documents showing our 501C3 tax status from the IRS and provide details of how proceeds will be divided among the charities we are supporting.

Reporting the Death of Lawrence B. Wilkins, H3

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Lawrence B. Wilkins of Herndon, VA died Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 64 years of age, following a brief battle with cancer.

A 1970 graduate of the United States Military Academy, he retired from the United States Army after over 22 years of service. The United States of America awarded him with the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and many other awards.

After his retirement, Lieutenant Colonel Wilkins worked with ASQ Section 5011 serving the section twice as Section Chair, and for many years as Education Chair. At the time of his death, he was employed by Analytical Services, where he worked for 15 years.

Lieutenant Colonel Wilkins was born in Philadelphia, PA. A self-taught comedian, he enjoyed science fiction/fantasy, model trains, the Muppets, dogs, and spending time with his family.

Lieutenant Colonel Wilkins is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susanne V. Wilkins of Herndon, VA; son Bradford Wilkins of Herndon, VA; daughters Beverly Wilkins of Dacula, GA and Carolyn Wilkins Davis of Herndon, VA; and a sister Donna Barker of Easton, MD.

Interment with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on March 21 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society .

Pete Spivy's daughter, Annette Spivy, called me at 1700 Saturday to report that Pete passed on to Valhalla about noon today, 25 Feb 12.

She wanted to let the Class know about Pete's passing, but also wanted to tell everyone NOT to make last minute efforts to come to Orlando as the memorial will be local and small.

She has carried a great burden with Pete's illness, brain cancer, and has been caring for him for quite awhile now.

She has been assisted by Pete's brother, Bert III, Class of '60 and her brother Bert IV. Hospice has also been active and supportive.

Quite frankly Annette has been super woman with respect to Pete's care. I know she made Pete proud!

A memorial will be held 1100, 3 March, 2012 at the 301 Northeast Ivanhoe Boulevard, Orlando, FL, Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home (there is more than one location so ensure you copy the address if you will attend).
