Creation of USMA 1970 "Singles" Facebook Group

I created this group at the request of Carol Myers Elliott - she is the admin/moderator. Her idea: "So many of us have lost our loved one, in one way or another. It would be nice to have a sharing website or chat area of people with similar background and character." Please pass on to USMA 1970 widows, widowers and "singles" who may be interested. Ask them to request membership https://www.facebook.com/groups/USMA1970Singles/ Thanks!

Classmate John Mearsheimer SENDS: National Interest web site about foreign policy under Trump

Hello everyone!

I am writing to pass on a few items that I thought might interest some of you.

First, I just published a piece on the National Interest web site about foreign policy under Trump. It is nice an short. Here is that link:

Second, I was in Russia for two weeks in October, and the second week was spent at the annual Valdai International Conference at Sochi on the Black Sea (the 2014 Winter Olympics were held there). Both Putin and his foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov spoke at the conference. Putin spoke and took Q&A for 3 hours. Lavrov spoke and took Q&A for 2 hours. Truly impressive performances. I was on a terrific panel there with some high powered people. Here it the link for it.

If you don't want to watch the entire discussion, which is just over 2 hours, I come in at 39 minutes, 1hour and 50 minutes, and 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Third, when I was in Moscow during my first week in Russia, I gave a long interview at the Valdai Club of Moscow and a long interview with RT. Here are those links if you are interested.

Fourth, I was part of a big study group on the Iran nuclear deal sponsored by the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC). They issued a report, which I helped write and signed. They held a press conference on the report recently in DC with four people and a moderator. Two of the people were Iranian-Americans, but the other two were Andy Bacevich (West Point, Class of 1969) and me. Andy, who I am sure many of you know or know of, also helped write and sign the report. Here is the link for that press conference as well:

I feel somewhat guilty sending all these links, but I figure everyone can pick and choose what interests them. I hope everyone is well and Happy Holidays to all.

A few years ago, Monsignor McCormick did a video interview with the West Point Center for Oral History that reflected on his time (1947-1975) at the Catholic Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity at West Point. Long video, but interesting!

It came back positive for melanoma

Joe (aka Bob) Faraguna of D-1, G-1, I-1 josephfaraguna@yahoo.com SENDS:
I go for dermatology checkups several times a year. After my latest exam, at the highly regarded Stony Brook Medical Center here in Long Island.
The doctor was about to leave when I asked "what about this discoloration under my left eye"?
He looked at the fine size shape. Said lets do a biopsy. It came back positive for melanoma.
The first surgery removed a quarter size cylinder of my skin. The biopsy was positive. The second surgery increased the cylinder of skin removed and the biopsy was negative. Plastic surgery grafted skin from my biceps into just under my left eye. The plastic surgeon was great and neither my eye nor nose were affected.
She, the plastic surgeon, said she uses skin moisturizer with SPF of at least 30 - and get this - she uses it 365 days a year! Even though we have four seasons in New York. The sun is year round.
If only one classmate starts to use a hat and sunblock daily - which I did not do - I will be satisfied!

Blessings,
Bob
